Lock Every Door

No guests. There were no evenings away from the flat. No bothering the other inhabitants, who are all either wealthy, famous, or both. These are the sole guidelines for Jules Larsen's new position as an apartment sitter in Manhattan's enigmatic and high-profile Bartholomew building. Jules, who was recently brokenhearted and plain broke, is enthralled by the beauty of her surroundings and agrees to the terms, eager to move on from her previous life. Jules finds herself drawn to fellow apartment sitter Ingrid as she gets to know the tenants and employees of the Bartholomew; she unsettlingly, comfortingly reminds her of the sister she lost eight years ago. Jules dismisses Ingrid's admission that the Bartholomew is not what it first appears to be and that the terrible past concealed under its dazzling façade is beginning to worry her as a lighthearted ghost story—until the next day, when Ingrid vanishes. Jules delves more into the Bartholomew's shadowy past and the mysteries hidden behind its walls in an effort to discover the truth about Ingrid's abduction. Jules is forced to work against the clock as she attempts to identify a killer, uncover the building's hidden history, and leave the Bartholomew before her temporary status turns permanent as she learns that Ingrid is not the only apartment sitter to disappear from the Bartholomew.
